In my Net travels I've seen pages pay homage to many diverse musical artists, but nowhere have I seen any collected information about probably the greatest jazz/pop vocal group of all time, THE SINGERS UNLIMITED.
Hopefully by reading and listening in you will garner an appreciation for this highly polished and extremely unique musical collective, and seek out and enjoy their relatively hard-to-find recordings.
"In Tune" reissued on CD!
Website correspondent Ray Gurley has just notified me that the classic Singers/Oscar Peterson collaboration In Tune has been reissued on CD by Verve. This was the release that galvanized the Singers as a commercial record-releasing unit rather than just a session group. Along with Peterson's trio of George Mraz on bass and Louis Hayes on drums, they swing through a bunch of classic tunes. "Sesame Street" alone is worth the price of admission. The recording has been freshly remastered and the package includes both the original LP liner notes and new liner notes including many new quotes from Gene Puerling.

Below is a pic taken in 1999 of Bonnie Herman in the studio with my former Special Effect bandmate Christin Foley, who was part of a vocal group appearing on a Dreamworks SKG audio project, recording in Chicago. Christin is another Singers fan and was surprised to find herself in a band with another Singers fan, not to mention this site's webmaster...
